Circuit City to Close all 567 Stores

The news that Circuit City will close all 567 stores certainly isn't unexpected after two failed attempts at acquisition. Store closing sales will start January 17. The closing will impact 34,000 employees.

Panera Will Open 70 to 90 Stores in 2009

Panera Bread, a chain of bakery cafes, plans to open 70 to 90 stores in 2009. The chain currently has 1250 locations.

It sure is good to see a restaurant chain expanding in this economy!

Monroe Outlet Mall Opening This Summer

The Monroe Outlet Mall is scheduled to open this summer. Chelsea Properties is developing the 400,000 square foot outlet center which will include 120 stores.

Retail Store Closings in 2009

It's difficult to keep up with all of the store closings but here's a few of note:


  1. Goody's Family Clothing will close all 287 stores
  2. New York & Co will close 40 to 50 stores
  3. World Market, a specialty home retailer, will close 26 of its 296 stores
  4. Oneida will close its 20 Outlet stores
  5. Grocer Supervalu will close 50 stores
  6. Circuit City to close all 567 stores
